Urban Stock is the name of my curated images based around themes of architecture, street and urban environments. My inspiration comes from many different sources, from New Topographics photographer 'Stephen Shore' to multi media artist 'Andy Warhol'.
This is the type of photography that I am most passionate about,
spending hours upon hours exploring locations around all the different areas I have lived or visited looking for the perfect subject matter. I try to capture the everyday moments, looking for view or a scene that encapsulates the very essence of urban existence. The urban environment can be a place of ugliness as well as beauty, where I try not to differentiate from the two. Within these images I revisit familiar themes of consumerism and popular culture either expressed through the use of vivid primary colors that depict a mass produced throw away culture to a more pastel palette that suggests a more romanticised viewpoint of the world. These images are of places that should enrich our lives, visually as well as spiritually, yet they can also be places that leave us feeling isolated and overwhelmed.
I could discuss endlessly about the meaning and wider context of this collection of photographs but ultimately I want them to visually striking and to work as individual pieces of art that would look great hanging on a wall.
As Andy Warhol famously said "just make art and when you're thinking about art, just make more art".
